Guadalkibear, the hottest bear event in the south of Spain!
GuadalkiBear Sevilla is one of the longest running bear events in Spain.
The event attracts bears, chasers and admiers from Spain and beyond. Over the past few years the GuadalkiBear has attracted even more foreign visitors as Sevile’s reputation for its open and tolerant gay scene becomes more well known.
The party takes place over 4 days from Thursday to Sunday. The official bear parties take place at the Men to Men bar, however all of the gay bars in the city are busy during the event. Men to Men has become the largest bar for bears, older men and admirers in the entire country, with two floors and 200 square meters (2100 square feet) of floor space.
The most anticipated party of the event is the boat party which is held on the Saturday during the weekend event.
The name GuadalkiBear is a combination of the name of the famous river that runs through our city, Guadalquivir, and the word Bear. In Spanish, saying Guadalquivir sounds almost the same as GuadalkiBear, but for people that don’t speak Spanish, saying Guadalkibear is frankly too complicated, so we decided to use the abbreviation GKB so that we can all understand each other.

Semana Santa – Easter in Seville
Semana Santa, or Holy Week, is both a demonstration of religiosity and an artistic and ethnographic show presenting the greatest achievements of our city’s sculpture and crafts.
When the works of art are taken to the streets – This event highlights both spiritual and cultural emotions, as well as admiration for the works of art. Each step shows you works by formidable sculptors, from the Baroque era to present day.
The scenes you can see in the streets of Seville will seem immutable in time. This is one of the things that most often attracts the attention of the people who discover Semana Santa: the sensation of traveling through the centuries.
The procession is carried through the city centre – The entourage that accompanies these religious icons is mainly led by the Nazarenes, whose faces are covered as a sign of penitence. These processions run through the centre of the city, from its church to the Cathedral, completing the so-called “Carrera Oficial”, and providing fabulous moments full of details until late at night. The largest historical area in Spain is filled this week with the coming and going of the church brotherhoods (cofradías).
A city filled with mystique – Some processions are silent, while others are filled with a passionate fervor. For example, the solemn experience that you get when watching the Gran Poder is very different from the overflowing emotion that La Macarena will provide.
The streets of Seville are as lively as ever. Enjoy a stroll filled with the scent of orange blossoms and incense that float through the air.
The city is specially decorated for this time of year for the passage of the brotherhoods, and also for the thousands of visitors.
In Seville, Semana Santa is, in short, a phenomenon that was born long ago that, for different reasons, has remained extraordinarily faithful in modern times. It is a shocking experience, always surprising and will stir feelings inside you, whether you are religious or not. It is not to be missed.

Light, colour, and a lot of joy, Feria de Abril, Seville 2020
Every year, Sevilla is taken over by its ‘Feria de Abril’, the fair of all fairs, a microcosm where the idiosyncrasy of the city unfolds with all its charm and power of seduction.
Seville’s Feria de Abril begins the night of the “alumbrao”, the inaugural moment when all the fairground lights are lit. This is also the night the traditional “pescaíto frito” (fried fish) is tasted in the stands. After a week of constant celebration, the Fair concludes with a great fireworks display over the Guadalquivir River.
The Fair is like a small, ornate town: an ephemeral world where the houses are booths, lit with lanterns and all the streets are named for legendary bullfighters.
Every year, a monumental colourful facade is erected at the entrance to commemorate a monument of the city of Seville. The facade is lit with thousands of light bulbs and is the traditional meeting place for Sevillians.
There are people in Seville who live for the “noche del alumbrao” (night of the lighting) as if it were New Year’s Eve. The lighting of the facade is like the marking of a year, a new year full of illusions and emotions that develop brilliantly during the week. As if a whole life were concentrated into one single week.
The streets are covered with a chalky, yellow sand from the neighbouring town of Alcalá de Guadaira. This sand is traditionally used in the gardens of Seville and in the bullrings. The streets through Fair are lit with thousands of bulbs covered with “farolillos” (special spherical screens of folded paper).
